Substance Use Disorder
Substance Use Disorder (SUD) is a mental health condition that occurs when a person doesn’t feel they can stop taking a substance like legal or illegal drugs, alcohol and/or medication. It may be time to reach out for help if you have the urge to use a drug(s) multiple times a day, you think that using the drug(s) is more important than other responsibilities, you start to need to use more of the drug(s) to feel the same effects as when you first tried it, you’re spending large amounts of money on the drug(s) and/ or you feel unable to stop when you try to cut back on your usage. SUD is a serious issue that over 20 million Americans aged 12 and up face, so you are not alone in this battle. If you’re struggling with SUD, there are many places to get help. Choosing to be sober is difficult, but ultimately, it can save your life.
There are a few important terms to know as you look through this list, including MAT and Naloxone.
MAT stands for Medication-assisted treatment and is when doctors prescribe specific kinds of medications that help with withdrawal symptoms when a person is addicted to opioids. It also includes counseling/ therapy. A lot of the resources below offer MAT therapy.
