Faith
For some, religion can play a huge role in their recovery from SUD, and might help their loved ones too. For others, it may be very unhelpful; no one solution encourages everyone. However, research tells us that people who are involved with religious activities usually have better mental health, more optimism and are able to manage stress easier, which are all important to have if you struggle with SUD and are trying to become or stay sober. Having the belief that a higher power is watching over you, supports you and loves you unconditionally is the ‘light’ that may help some during recovery. In fact, two of the most well-known recovery groups, Alcoholics Anonymous and Narcotics Anonymous are faith-based.
